Students at Osgoode Hall Law School have a number of opportunities to volunteer at CLASP. By volunteering, students learn hands-on skills while providing necessary and needed services to low-income individuals.
Intake Volunteers (IV)
What do Intake Volunteers do?
Intake Volunteers shifts are scheduled for 1 hour per week. You will work in a team with 3 to 4 other volunteers and one of our Division Leaders to provide frontline services to potential and ongoing clients. As an Intake Volunteer you will:
- Assess potential clients for eligibility
- Provide meaningful referrals
- Conduct in depth interviews with applicants
- Maintain client data base
- Perform conflict checks
- Answer calls in regards to legal representation and summary advice
Sign Up and Training:
Volunteer signup begins the first week of school (see Important Dates) for fall term and again just before the Christmas break for the winter term. Volunteers must participate in the clinic wide training session(see Important Dates) and the Behind the Desk training.
Supervision:
During your IV shift you will always be working under the direct supervision of an experienced Division Leader. The Community Outreach Counselor, Review Counsel and Clinical Director maintain an open door policy, and are available to answer questions and provide guidance.
Our experienced support staff are an excellent resource. You will have plenty of support and guidance while volunteering at CLASP.
