Summary Advice
If you have a specific legal question you need answered, in one of the areas of law we practice, we can take a ‘summary advice’ application over the phone. After we understand the problem you are experiencing and the question(s) you would like answered, a student will research the problem and prepare a response. One of our staff lawyers will then review the response, and when completed, the student will call you with the information. This process is usually completed within 3-5 business days.
Legal Representation
The law students who work at CLASP are able to represent clients before certain courts and tribunals. If you need representation, please contact us to see if you meet our financial eligibility and if it is in the areas of law that we practice. If these criteria are met you will need to come to our office or our satellite clinics for an interview, so that we can get more information about the problem you are experiencing, and review any documents you have. After we have obtained all of this information, we will begin a formal review of your application and will notify you within 10 business days as to whether or not we will be able to represent you. Unfortunately, we are not able to represent everyone who requires legal assistance; we have to select from eligible cases based on our clinic priorities and our case selection policy. As with all work at CLASP, the students' representation of your case will be closely supervised by the staff lawyers.
Referrals
CLASP is a great resource for referrals. If you have a legal matter outside of our expertise, a student will be happy to assist you in finding a legal clinic, lawyer, court house or Tribunal that will suit your needs.
