Osgoode Hall Law School,

Borrowing a Laptop

At least two days notice is required to borrow a laptop.  Requests are to be sent to help@osgoode.yorku.ca, specifying purpose, expected use, and any other relevant details.

Policy

- Laptops are loaned out on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority is given in the following order:

     1.    Off-site research

     2.    Conferences and other educational events

     3.    Meetings

     4.    Work at home

- At certain times, priority may be given to some groups or individuals. For example, training needs.

- Priority is given to faculty who do not own a laptop through the Computer Renewal Program (CRP).

- Laptops are installed with standard Osgoode-supported software. Additional Osgoode-supported software must be requested at least one week in advance. Prior approval for additional software is required, as there may be compatibility, space, and licensing issues that could jeopardize the proper functioning of the laptop. Once approval is obtained, the borrower is responsible for installing the software.

- The borrower is responsible for loss or damage to the laptop and/or accessories. A fee will be charged based on the cost of repairs or replacement value.

- During the academic year, the maximum borrowing length is one (1) week. During the summer months, laptops can be borrowed for three (3) weeks. If more time is required, the request will be sent to the Associate Dean's office for approval. A loan may be renewed after the initial period if one is available at that time.

- Failure to return equipment on time can lead to suspension of borrowing privileges.

- When returning the laptop, report any issues you may have had.  Be sure to have all your files removed from the laptop before returning it. Once the computer is returned, everything will be deleted in order to prepare it for the next person.
