Those students interested in participating in Pro Bono Students of Canada will need to accomplish three key tasks:![]()
- Prepare resume and cover letter
- Fill out the online application (Apply)
- Sign and submit the Student Agreement Form to Osgoode Hall Law School Ignat Kaneff Building Room 1012S or fax it to (416) 736-5736
By embarking on the noble pro bono tradition of the legal profession, you are conducting valuable work in social justice and learning practical skills to complement your education. The following are some law-related areas that you may be exposed to:
- Legal research and the preparation of legal memoranda
- Drafting manuals and policy papers
- Public legal education
- Lobbying and advocacy work
- Case preparation
- Providing assistance to counsel in legal proceedings or administrative hearings
- Client intake: conducting client interviews and providing supervised legal advise

Note: The PBSC program operates to match organizations with students who are most suited for the project. Student may not necessarily be placed in their top choices for areas of interests. However, it is recognized that through the detailed screening and project development process conducted by the PBSC office and project managers, all placements are of high quality and offer a rewarding experience.
Application Criteria
Click on the button on the top right corner of this page in order to fill in the Online Application Form. Please note that in order to be considered for a pro bono placement, students must meet the following criteria:
- Experience in managing both full-time school with part-time work/volunteering/student leadership.*
- Interest in social justice/public interest.
* This requirement is relaxed during the summer program that runs from May – August.
Commitment is approximately 3-5 hours per week minus the examination preparation period. Project Managers will work with you to ensure that your placement assignments can be balanced with school.

Cover Letter & Resume
Those students who satisfy the requirement may then prepare the following that may be forwarded to the supervisor once granted a PBSC placement:
- Cover letter demonstrating interest in social justice/public interest
- Resume
