Osgoode Hall Law School,

Bursary Program

Osgoode Hall Law School offers a comprehensive bursary program to help students offset increasing educational debt. Each year, Osgoode awards upwards of $3 million in bursaries and related special funding to students with demonstrated financial need. The Osgoode Hall Law School Bursary Program continues to grow substantially, and we are grateful for the philanthropic support of alumni and friends of the Law School.

About 60% of Osgoode students apply to Osgoode's bursary program annually, and approximately 85% of those who apply receive funding. Bursaries vary from $1,200 for lower need students to $10,000 for students documenting the highest levels of financial need. Bursaries are non-repayable and are therefore very helpful in offsetting increasing debt loads.

There are three main sources of bursary funding at Osgoode:

  • Government Tuition Set Aside Funding (TSA)
  • Osgoode Unrestricted Funding
  • Osgoode Donor Designated Bursary Funds

You can find the full list of bursaries here.

Applying

There is only one bursary process and one deadline, September 19, 2011. You make a general online application to the Bursary Program, and do not apply for individual bursaries. Students who fail to submit by the deadline will not receive a bursary for the academic year. The Online Bursary Application is available for Osgoode students to access on the first day of classes.

To be eligible for an Osgoode bursary you must:

  1. apply for student government funding
  2. apply for a student line of credit
  3. provide the necessary and complete documentation
  4. submit your application online by the deadline

Students who are declined government funding or a student line of credit may still be awarded an Osgoode bursary if the relevant documentation relating to the refusal is complete and explained.

Decisions are made on the basis of documented financial need taking into account individual circumstances such as educational debt load, interest payments, dependants, medical and dental expenses and other relevant factors. It is your responsibility to make a clear and strong case in your Bursary Application.
