Sample Budget
We have included a sample budget for incoming students. You can make changes according to your particular situation, but be sure to budget as carefully and frugally as possible, using the sample budget as a guide.
Tuition Fees
Osgoode's tuition for students entering the JD, JD/MBA, JD/MES and JD/MA-Phil programs in the 2011-2012 academic year is $19,041, plus an estimated $872.24 in ancillary fees, for a total of $19,913.24.
Students enrolled in the JD/MBA, JD/MES and JD/MA-Phil joint programs will pay tuition at the Schulich School of Business, Faculty of Environmental Studies, or Faculty of Arts during the year they are enrolled full time at that faculty, and will pay Osgoode fees for the reminder of their studies. Joint program students are not eligible for Osgoode scholarships, awards and bursaries while registered full-time at the Schulich School of Business, the Faculty of Environmental Studies or the Faculty of Arts.
Tuition and ancillary fees are due in two parts: the first half by August 10 and the second half at the beginning of January. The deadlines must be met in order to maintain enrolment status.
Financial Statement
All applicants to Osgoode are strongly encouraged to complete a Financial Statement as part of your Admissions application to Osgoode. Only those students who complete the Financial Statement at the time of application will be considered for Osgoode Entrance Scholarships and Early Bursary Notification.
Click here to complete the Financial Statement.
Housing
Osgoode students have access to on-campus housing units. Osgoode students are placed in either the York Apartments (high-rise buildings) or the Osgoode Chambers, which is part of York's on-site graduate housing, Passy Gardens (town house style). These units are located minutes from the law school and are reserved for law students. Past practice has shown that students who accept Osgoode's offer of admission prior to April 30 will likely be able to secure housing on-campus, with priority given to students who live well outside the Toronto area. After April 30, securing housing can be competitive as it comes on a first come first serve basis. Please submit your application as soon as possible if you plan to live on campus.
To apply, visit the Student Housing Services website at http://www.yorku.ca/stuhouse/. If you have any issues, the office can be reached by email at yorkapts@yorku.ca. For information on Osgoode Chambers Student Residence, click here.
If you would prefer to live off-campus, there are several search engines that may help you find suitable accommodations. Two of these sites are www.places4students.com and www.viewit.ca.
Scholarships and Awards
All applicants who complete the Financial Statement are automatically considered for all entrance scholarships. For more information about Osgoode's Entrance Scholarship Program and for a list and descriptions of the many entrance scholarships and awards click here.
If you are the recipient of a scholarship or award, your scholarship/award will be credited to your student account before your first installment of fees is due in early August.
Osgoode's Early Bursary Notification Program
All applicants who complete the Financial Statement by the same deadline as the OLSAS application deadline, will be considered for Early Bursary Notification.
To help you start planning and budgeting for law school, the Early Bursary Notification Program provides applicants with an indication of how much they might receive in bursary funding. When admission offers are made, Osgoode provides a letter estimating the amount students might expect to receive from the Osgoode Bursary Program in September, based on the Financial Statement completed in the previous November.
Bursaries vary from $1,200 for lower need students to $10,000 for students with the highest levels of financial need. They are non-repayable, and will therefore prove helpful in offsetting increasing debt loads.
Early notification letters are not a guarantee you will receive an Osgoode bursary, and please note that if you do not receive a letter, that does not necessarily mean you will not receive an Osgoode bursary in the fall. All students must complete the Regular Online Bursary Application in September to receive a bursary. If the information in the Financial Statement that you submitted with your admissions application in November changes significantly from the information you submit the following September, it is possible that your final bursary amount could be positively or negatively affected. In our experience, the early bursary notification process is generally quite accurate and any changes are usually positive.

OSAP
If you are an Ontario student and complete your OSAP application before June 30, your tuition fees will be deferred. Click here for more information.
The current maximum funding available through OSAP each academic year is approximately $14,000 for a single student without dependants, and about $20,000 for students who are married, in a common law relationship, or a sole support parent.
Students may also be eligible for additional bursaries. Students are encouraged to visit the OSAP website for complete information.

Student Account
All students have an online Student Account accessible through Passport York. This account will be used for all your financial transactions while you are a student at Osgoode. Your Student Account reflects your enrolment deposit, tuition, rent (if you live on campus) and any scholarships, prizes, and bursaries or other funding that is credited to your account. It is your responsibility to review your Student Account to ensure that transactions are correct.
All tuition and other fees payable to Osgoode are paid through your Student Account. Click here for details.
All York invoices for fees and accounts are online with your Student Account. Hard copies are no longer mailed to students.
Student Health Plan
The Student Health Plan is administered exclusively by Osgoode students through the Legal and Literary Society. The fees are approximately $400 per year. All inquiries about this plan should be made directly to the Legal and Literary Office, or to healthplan@osgoode.yorku.ca. For additional information on the Health Plan, please visit the Legal & Literary Society website.
