Studying at Osgoode as an NCA Special Student
Osgoode Hall Law School is prepared to grant admission as non-degree students to applicants whose law studies and experience have been assessed by the National Committee on Accreditation. Successful applicants are admitted to courses offered at the law school, subject to space availability, in order to meet the Canadian JD equivalency requirement as set out in the letter provided by the National Committee on Accreditation. Persons admitted in order to meet the law course requirements set by the National Committee on Accreditation do not receive the Osgoode JD degree.
English Language Proficiency
Proof of language proficiency must be provided unless one of the following criteria does applies:
- Your first language is English; OR
- You completed at least one year of full-time study at an accredited postsecondary institution in a country (or institution) where English is the official language of instruction.
It should be noted that first-year level courses are not accommodated. English proficiency at a minimum 95 IBT or 7.0 IELTS is required.
Osgoode's NCA Exam Prep Course
Osgoode Professional Development's NCA Exam Prep Course is specifically designed for foreign qualified lawyers planning to write the National Committee on Accreditation's Examinations. This intensive course has been designed to cover the NCA syllabi for the Four Mandatory Canadian Exams that all applicants are required to write. It is intended for students who have been granted permission by the NCA to write the NCA Exams and already have an understanding of common law.
This program covers only the four mandatory exams and not any further exams that you may have been required to write. It does not award law school credit. For additional details, see the Exam Prep Course website.
