Application Guidelines

ELIGIBILITY

The Visiting Scholar Program welcomes applications from individuals who are Professors of Law.

The Visiting Researcher Program welcomes application from individuals who are working towards their graduate degree or completing post graduate work at another institution.

Visiting Scholars and Researchers must be:

a) teaching or research staff of a recognized university or working in a profession or occupation that is equivalent to that of a teaching/research position; or

b) researchers (LLM/PhD/Post-Doc) working in an area of interest to the Law School and its community.

APPLICATION PROCESS

The Visiting Scholars and Researchers Programs are administered by the Office of Research, Graduate Studies and Institutional Relations. If you are interested in applying as a Visiting Scholar or Researcher, please submit electronically your complete application package to Jody-Ann Rowe-Butler:

  1. The Visiting Scholar/Researcher Application Form (PDF)
  2. A full Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  3. A sample of your academic writing in English (abstract; journal article)
  4. A copy of your TOEFL/IELTS results (if applicable)

Language Proficiency

 A Test of English as a Foriegn Language (TOEFL) score is required for applicants whose first language is not English and who have not completed at least three years of full-time study at a post secondary institution in a country (or institution) where English is the official language of instruction.To be considered, applicants must possess a Total Score not less than 93, with a minimum of 22 for Writing and 22 for Speaking.

Alternatively, Osgoode will also accept test results of the academic test format offered by the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). IELTS results should be no less than 7.0 in the academic format.

  • You will receive access to the Library (some databases are however not accessible to visitors who are not registered to study/teach at the Law School)
  • Computer/Wireless access 
  • You may attend/audit lectures with the Professor’s approval, and the understanding that no transcript will be received for participation. Visitors are not entitled to any individual supervision, unless arranged prior to visit with the collegial support faculty member.
  • You are encouraged to attend Osgoode and York events.

The Law School is not able to offer office space or secretarial assistance to all visitors. Depending on availability an office space will be offered to long-term visitors.

All visitors must complete the application process and obtain final approval for their visit by the Associate Dean of Research, Graduate Studies and Institutional Relations, prior to visiting the Law School
