A Feminist Reimagining of the Trial Film: Anatomy of a Fall

On its face the central question posed by the film Anatomy of a Fall is whether a man was murdered by his wife. In this talk, I argue that the central question posed is far more complex. I examine some of the strategic choices made by feminist filmmaker Justine Triet that invite viewers to examine their own assessment of the layered and flawed protagonist. Specifically, the film advances a feminist worldview by drawing on and reimaging the tropes of the courtroom genre by situating the trial in the inquisitorial system.
