Mr. Grimaldi is currently Principal at Grimlaw Professional Corporation, where he provides specialized legal and business advisory services to a diverse group of US and Canadian public and private companies on a wide range of interesting projects including public markets compliance, IPO readiness and corporate governance, cybersecurity, IP and technology, and regulatory compliance and strategy.
From 2014-2016, he was EVP and General Counsel of Progressive Waste Solutions Ltd. [TSX/NYSE: BIN], a North American waste management and recycling business, where he had overall executive responsibility for the Company’s legal and regulatory affairs. In early 2016 he successfully navigated the Company through a controlled auction of the business, which in June was sold to a large US competitor. Mr. Grimaldi was recognized for his leadership in this transaction including as Innovative Dealmaker of the Year from Thomson Reuters, and as a finalist for the Purdy Crawford Dealmaker of the Year from ZSA and The National Post.
Previously, he was COO and General Counsel of MedAvail Technologies Inc., a North American disruptive healthcare technology business in the pharmacy dispensing space. Before joining MedAvail, he was Vice-President and Associate General Counsel at Symcor Inc., a Canadian-based international technology and BPO services company, where he was responsible for the commercial legal team and US expansion.
He spent the earlier part of his legal career at Stikeman Elliott LLP, specializing in corporate M&A, intellectual property, technology, outsourcing and M&A matters.
Mr. Grimaldi is an active member of the American Bar Association, the Association of Corporate Counsel, the Governance Professionals of Canada, the National Association of Corporate Directors and the Institute of Corporate Directors.
He holds a BBA and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University, an LLB from the University of Western Ontario, and the ICD.D Designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. He is an Adjunct Professor of Business Law at the Schulich School of Business, and teaches Commercialization of Intellectual Property at Osgoode Hall Law School. He is Chair of the Board of Governors of Villanova College in King, Ontario, and sits on the Board of Directors of Hospice Vaughan. Mr. Grimaldi is fluent in French and Italian.
