Steven Mason is a partner in the Litigation Group at McCarthy Tétrault in Toronto. His practice includes all areas of litigation, with a particular focus on intellectual property and related disputes.
Mr. Mason is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer. He frequently appears before the Federal Court of Canada and Ontario Courts in cases involving patents, trade-marks, copyright, trade secrets, breach of confidence and breach of fiduciary duty.
Mr. Mason has also practised law at a large San Francisco-based U.S. law firm where he handled a variety of intellectual property matters. He appeared as counsel in a successful jury trial in the Northern District of California and represented clients in cases before the International Trade Commission and the Court of International Trade. Mr. Mason speaks regularly on topics related to intellectual property law.
Mr. Mason received his BA from the University of Western Ontario and his LLB (magna cum laude) from the University of Ottawa. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1994, and has been a member of the State Bar of California since 2001. He is admitted to practice before all courts in Ontario, the United States District Court (N.D. Cal.), the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals and the Court of International Trade in New York.
