JD Student COVID-19 Relief Fund

Osgoode Hall Law School recognizes that the COVID-19 pandemic has financially impacted many students, particularly in the form of lost income and/or unexpected expenses.  To that end, the law school has set aside $250,000 to assist returning JD students who have experienced unanticipated, significant financial hardship that is directly attributed to COVID-19.

 Deadline

The application deadline has now passed.

Who can apply?

Any returning JD student (domestic or international) who has experienced unanticipated, significant financial hardship since March 15, 2020 that is directly attributed to COVID-19.

Examples of unanticipated, significant financial hardship may include:

  • Loss of all or a substantial portion of your paid summer employment (at least 50%)
  • Significant reduction in total household income due to job loss of one or more family members who financially support you
  • Unanticipated, increased child care or elder care costs incurred as a result of the disruption of usual care arrangements
  • Unanticipated health care costs directly attributed to COVID-19

*Please note this fund is intended to support students who have experienced financial challenges specifically related to COVID-19.  Our regular Fall bursary process will address general financial need related to financing your legal education.

Assessment Process and Timeline

The Financial Services Office (FSO) will review all requests after August 7, 2020.  The amount available per student will depend on the number of eligible applicants to the fund.  The FSO will determine whether a student has demonstrated significant financial hardship directly related to COVID-19.  Requests will be processed, and decisions communicated by August 24, 2020. The FSO will report on the total number of recipients and value of funds distributed once the process is complete.

Distribution of Funding

If approved, funds will be posted to your York Student Account after August 24th and applied towards your outstanding tuition.
