Steps to Apply

The admissions application process to the LLM Research and PhD is done completely online.  Please read the information below before starting your application.

Complete the following:

Step 1: Apply Online

The admissions application can be accessed through the York University Graduate Admissions page.  Please read the page carefully before clicking on the Apply Now button on the right side of that page.

Step 2: Pay Application Fee

There is a $130 application fee that must be paid online.

Step 3:  Application Acknowledgement

The University will process the first part of your application.  This will take approximately three business days.  When this is complete, you will receive an email from York University with your access information to the MyFile portal.

Step 4: Upload all required documents

Access your Admissions MyFile and upload all application documents.  Please do not send any documents to the Graduate Program in Law office.

Application Timeline

The admission application will open in mid-October for both domestic and international applications to the Research LLM and PhD.

We review complete application files on a rolling basis, so we encourage you to submit all your application documents as soon as possible.


File review and decision-making will begin as soon as a file is complete.

The final application deadline are as follows:

International Students – January 15, 2022

Domestic Students – February 15, 2022

All supporting documentation must be received prior to this date. Applications that are missing documentation will be considered incomplete and not reviewed.

Decisions are made on a rolling basis, with assessments starting as soon as each file is complete.  Most decisions will be announced in early spring 2022.  Please note that there are a limited number of international students accepted into the program each year.

Admissions decisions will be updated on the MyFile portal. We recommend that you check there regularly for the status of your application.
