A full-time status student is one who regularly comes to campus to attend classes, uses the facilities and/or the libraries, and is involved with graduate student events. It comprises approximately 35 to 40 hours of concentrated intellectual work per week. All students in the program are initially admitted as full-time students.
A part-time status student is one who comes to campus occasionally. This status is suitable for students with significant outside commitments and for those in year 2+ of an LLM. It comprises approximately 10 to 15 hours of concentrated intellectual work per week. Part-time status must be applied for through the program office.
An external status student is one who does not come to campus to use the facilities or receive active supervision. They do not pay tuition, but their time in external status counts toward the number of terms taken to finish their degree. External status must be applied for through the program office.
A student may take a leave of absence for various reasons, including medical, maternity, and parenting. A student on a leave of absence does not pay tuition, and the time on the leave of absence does not count toward the number of semesters spent in the program. Leaves of absence must be applied for through the program office.
