Aswani K. Datt is a criminal defence lawyer and sole practitioner with over 24 years of experience at the Ontario Bar. Called to the Bar in February 2002, he has conducted hundreds of trials, including judge-alone and jury trials involving serious criminal matters such as homicide, sexual assault, firearms, and drug offences.
His practice encompasses approximately 70% criminal litigation and 30% civil matters, with extensive experience in Charter applications, evidentiary motions, and complex trial advocacy.
A strong advocate for access to justice, Mr. Datt has provided pro bono legal services to newcomers and vulnerable members of the Indo-Canadian community for over 15 years through the Hindu Heritage Centre. He serves as an Advisory Board Member of the Canadian Hindu Chamber of Commerce, where he contributes to initiatives addressing racism and Hinduphobia.
