While attending Osgoode Hall Law School, Scarlet was a Junior Caseworker and Division Leader at CLASP and a recipient of the Harley D. Hallet Scholarship. Called to the Ontario Bar in 2011, she maintained a busy practice at a large criminal defence firm, representing clients on a broad range of matters, from summary conviction offences to the most serious indictable charges. She appeared regularly before the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice, advocating for clients at all stages of the criminal process, including in both judge-alone and jury trials. Her advocacy experience also includes appearances before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Ontario Review Board, and the Parole Board of Canada.
Scarlet has presented at the Criminal Lawyers’ Association Annual Spring Conference and participated in panel discussions on legal and access-to-justice issues, including as a panelist at the GTA Region & Specialty Community Legal Clinic Conference and the Journal of Law and Social Policy Symposium. Since 2020, she has served as an assessor for Toronto Metropolitan University’s Law Practice Program.
Scarlet returned to CLASP as supervising lawyer of the Criminal Law Division in 2018 and assumed the role of Clinic Director in 2022. She is Adjunct Faculty at Osgoode Hall Law School, where she co-teaches the CLASP seminar, and has previously supervised a Directed Readings course. She is passionate about clinical legal education and considers one of the most rewarding aspects of her work to be watching students grow in confidence and develop strong legal skills over the course of their placement at CLASP.
