What should be Osgoode’s top priority over the next five years? That’s the question Osgoode students are invited to answer in this year’s Dean for a Day contest.

2016 Dean for a Day Contest

This year’s Dean for a Day contest, which runs from Feb. 1 to 26, dovetails with a strategic planning year for the Law School. Osgoode students can leave their mark on the Law School’s future by answering the question: What should be Osgoode’s top priority over the next five years?

There are multiple ways to participate in this year’s Dean for a Day contest:
• Tweeting your response using hashtag #ozd4d;
• Commenting on the Dean for a Day post on the Osgoode Facebook page;
• Sharing a photo or video on Instagram using hashtag #ozd4d;
• Sending an e-mail note (max. 100 words) to vcorner@osgoode.yorku.ca;
• Delivering a hard copy note (max. 100 words) to Virginia Corner in Room 1016;
• Creating a YouTube video and sending the link to vcorner@osgoode.yorku.ca.

The contest is open to all Osgoode students. Submissions must be received no later than noon on Friday, February 26. The winner will be announced on Thursday, March 3, and will trade places with Dean Lorne Sossin as Dean for a Day on Thursday, March 10. Sossin, in turn, will attend that student’s classes and do the various things that Osgoode students do!

Submissions will be reviewed by the contest judges – Professor Benjamin Berger, Associate Dean, Students and Mya Rimon, Assistant Dean, Students – who will be looking for a clearly articulated priority that has practical application and can help define the direction for the Law School through 2020.

The person with the winning Dean for a Day submission will be able to:
• Make themselves comfortable in the Dean’s Office;
• Chair meetings of the Law School’s senior administration;
• Enjoy an exclusive catered lunch with three friends in the Dean’s private boardroom;
• Star in a Dean for a Day video that will be posted to Osgoode’s YouTube channel;
• Direct a $500 grant to one of several Law School initiatives, including Osgoode’s Syria Refugee Sponsorship program, emergency bursary program and Access to Law & Learning (ALL) free LSAT course, or a student club/organization of your choice.
• Go to the movies using a Cineplex Great Escape Movie Package pass
