Walsh Family Negotiation Competition

The Walsh Family Negotiation Competition is a competition for 2nd and 3rd year law students. Working in teams of two, using facts for each partner in a family law dispute, the law students will negotiate with opposing teams in three successive rounds of increasing complexity. What You Need to Know

  • The moot will be held in Toronto in mid-March
  • The moot will be judged by leading Ontario family law practitioners and judges who will assist in the drafting of the moot problem and grading of factums
  • It is recommended that students participate in the internal Dentons Negotiation Cup in the Fall to be considered for this competition

Teams

  • Teams are usually comprised of two teams of two students

Credits/Courses

  • Team members receive two graded credits for their participation, which will be applied in the Winter term
  • Team members are NOT required to enroll in the Appellate Advocacy Workshop
  • There are no required courses, but previous experience, or having taken, or taking courses in ADR, such as Osgoode Mediation Intensive, Theory and Practice of Mediation, Lawyer as a Negotiator, are an asset
