Students in the Community

From the first day at Osgoode, students have the opportunity to get engaged with the community. Whether their interests lie in providing legal services to the local community surrounding Osgoode or providing legal services to communities in remote regions of the globe there are opportunities for everyone to get involved!

Many of the programs that immerse our students in experiential learning in the community qualify for OPIR hours, including the ones at the following link. All Osgoode Clinics and Intensive Programs, with the exception of ABLW II & II and certain placements within the Business Law Intensive, qualify for OPIR.

International Legal Partnership (ILP)

ILP is a student-directed organization at Osgoode Hall Law School. The ILP’s mission is to provide public interest legal research and assistance for the Global South. With the guidance of faculty, alumni and the legal community, ILP strives to create opportunities for students to experience practical global legal education in a manner that is mutually beneficial for students and partner organizations dealing with legal issues relevant to the Global South.

Justice and Corporate Accountability Project (JCAP)

JCAP is an initiative of volunteer lawyers, and is a transnational, collaborative, community-based legal clinic. JCAP assists in holding corporations and states to account by offering legal knowledge to communities that are negatively affected by natural resource extraction. Under the direction of Professor Shin Imai of Osgoode Hall Law School, JCAP offers law students the opportunity to provide legal services and research to communities in the Americas and for international human rights and not-for-profit organizations.

Law In Action Within Schools (LAWS)

Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC)

PBSC provides legal services without charge to organizations and individuals in need in Canada. PBSC is the only national law student program in Canada and the only national pro bono service organization anywhere in the world. PBSC has a chapter at every law school in Canada, and offers students a diversity of projects spanning a wide array of legal practice areas and types of legal work. By exposing law students to the value of pro bono service, PBSC aims to encourage the next generation of lawyers to make pro bono service an everyday part of their practice.
