Ziyad Edward Akkawi

Z. Edward Akkawi was called to the Ontario Bar in 1997 and received his B.A. from McGill University (Economics) and his LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School. He began his career as an associate at McMillan Binch LLP (now, McMillan LLP) where he specialized in corporate/commercial law with a focus on private company mergers and acquisitions. In 2000, Mr. Akkawi moved on to become the General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer of First Asset Investment Management Inc. (now a part of CI Global Asset Management Inc.), a position he held for nearly 20 years. In his role, Mr. Akkawi oversaw First Asset’s legal, regulatory and fund operations. Mr. Akkawi currently provides operational consulting services to investment fund managers, and serves on Independent Review Committees for investment funds.
