Workstations
Service Details
Osgoode ITS provides purchasing, technical support, management and disposal of workstations and devices for faculty, staff and research centres.
- Support is provided for Dell desktops and Lenovo laptops
- Apple systems are supported only for faculty members through the Faculty Computer Renewal Program (CRP) or research funds
- All computers are purchased with a three year warranty
- iPads can be purchased with an optional three year warranty
- Hardware installation of computers will be performed within the Ignat Kaneff Building
- Workstations are physically secured with cables and locks
- Osgoode ITS maintains asset details and warranty information
Faculty – Computer Renewal Program (CRP)
- Osgoode provides Full Time and CLA Faculty a rebate for a new computer every three years
- The old CRP computer must be returned when receiving the new one
- Faculty members eligible for CRP upgrades are notified in April. Upgrades are purchased and installed between May – August
- Computer installs may be requested at a different time of year for approved, extenuating circumstances only
- The upgrade will be deferred if the faculty member is on sabbatical or administrative leave
- Blackout periods: September, December, January, April
- The deadline to respond to the CRP call in April is October of the same year
CRP Purchase Requirements
In order to proceed with a CRP purchase, faculty members must provide the following information:
- Approval to go ahead with the equipment as quoted
- Confirmation of cost centres to charge – when splitting cost centres, the faculty member must provide the exact amount of money to charge to each cost centre
- Shipping address, including contact phone number for orders shipped off campus
Faculty – Research
- Faculty members can purchase workstations and other devices through research funds, except during blackout periods
- Research purchases must be made through Osgoode ITS to allow for standard software installation
- Workstations should be requested through help@osgoode.yorku.ca
- Blackout periods: September, December, January, April
Research Purchase Requirements
In order to proceed with a CRP purchase, faculty members must provide the following information:
- Approval to go ahead with the equipment as quoted
- Confirmation of cost centres to charge – when splitting cost centres, the faculty member must provide the exact amount of money to charge to each cost centre
- Shipping address, including contact phone number for orders shipped off campus
Faculty – Emeritus
- Faculty members can purchase workstations through research funds, except during blackout periods
- Current CRP computers may be retained and taken home after retirement
- If you are doing this, notify help@osgoode.yorku.ca for inventory tracking purposes
- Research machine purchases must be made through Osgoode ITS to allow for standard software installation
- Workstations should be requested through help@osgoode.yorku.ca
- Blackout periods: September, December, January, April
Emeritus Faculty Purchase Requirements
In order to proceed with a CRP purchase, faculty members must provide the following information:
- Approval to go ahead with the equipment as quoted
- Confirmation of cost centres to charge – when splitting cost centres, the faculty member must provide the exact amount of money to charge to each cost centre
- Shipping address, including contact phone number for orders shipped off campus
Staff and Research Centres
- The workstation upgrade list is circulated to department managers in February; upgrades are purchased and deployed between May – August
- New equipment can be purchased at other times of the year for new employees. Contact help@osgoode.yorku.ca to request new computing equipment

Pricing
Vendor quotes are provided for workstation purchases. Prices vary depending on the type of equipment being procured.
Base Computer: A base computer (basic PC desktop and monitor) is provided with no extra charge. For any other options, the difference is charged to the faculty member’s PER account.
