F. Jorge Gaxiola Lappe is a JSD candidate at NYU School of Law. His research lies at the intersection of legal philosophy, constitutional theory, and private law theory. It concerns the way in which private law deals with and resolves conflicts of constitutional values.
His current work focuses on challenges to democratic practices, like the use of defamation as a tool of censorship and the proliferation of misinformation. It explores how these challenges require us to adjust preconceptions about how human rights and democratic processes operate as reciprocal limits and conditions to each other and the role tort law plays in resolving these tensions.
Jorge worked for 5 years at the National Supreme Court of Mexico, where he was a judicial assistant to Justice Cossío Díaz and Justice Medina Mora, and a law clerk to Justice González Alcántara Carrancá. He was also professor at Escuela Libre de Derecho (Mexico City), where he taught Legal Theory.
