Using OneDrive
Installing OneDrive
- Windows 11 – OneDrive is installed as part of Windows 11
- Click Start and type OneDrive to launch it
- Sign in with your Passport York credentials (username@yorku.ca)
- macOS / iOS / Android – OneDrive can be installed from the AppStore or Google Play Store for devices running macOS, iOS and Android
Using OneDrive
- You can access your OneDrive files through a web browser from the Microsoft 365 Copilot portal

Recommended File Structure
- It is recommended to create two main folders within your OneDrive—one folder that syncs with your computer and one that does not. This way, files stored in the folder that does not sync will not take up space on your local hard drive
- For the folder to sync, right-click on the folder and select Always keep on this device
Restoring Deleted Folders and Files
Follow these instructions to restore data from within 30 days of deletion.
- Sign in to the SharePoint site through the Office 365 Portal
- Click Documents
- Click Recycle Bin
- Select the items to restore, and click Restore
Syncing SharePoint Documents with OneDrive
- Sign in to the SharePoint site through the Microsoft 365 Copilot portal
- Click Documents
- Click the Sync button on the toolbar
- The files from the SharePoint site will be available in Windows Explorer under a folder called York University
