Accessing FAS Shared Volumes Remotely

Option 1: VPN and Mapped Drives

Windows

Step 1 – Connect to VPN

  1. Follow the instructions on http://vpn.yorku.ca to install and configure Pulse Secure
  2. Launch Pulse Secure and sign in using your Passport York credentials (username)

Step 2 – Map the Volume to a Drive

Note: This step only needs to be done once.

  1. Open Computer from the desktop
  2. Click Map Network Drive from the toolbar
  3. Place a checkmark beside Connect using Different Credentials
  4. Select the drive letter and enter the path (see the table below)
  5. When the sign in window comes up, enter yorku\username and your Passport York password

macOS

Step 1 – Connect to VPN

  1. Follow the instructions on http://vpn.yorku.ca to install and configure Pulse Secure
  2. Launch Pulse Secure and sign in using Passport York

Step 2 – Map the Network Share

  1. Click Go then Go to server…
  2. Enter the full path of the shared volume (from the table above), e.g. smb://vfadmin.yorku.yorku.ca/LW-ADMINISTRATION to connect to the volume
  3. When prompted for credentials, enter yorku\username and your Passport York password
  4. Click Go then Computer
  5. You will see the volumes listed—drag the volume to the Finder sidebar under FAVORITES

iOS (iPad / iPhone)

Step 1 – Connect to VPN

  1. Download and install Pulse Secure from the Apple App Store
  2. Set up a connection profile in Pulse Secure using the following information
  3. Connection Name: YorkU
  4. URL: https:\\vpngateway.yorku.ca/vpnyork
  5. Username: Leave as optional
  6. Authentication: Password
  7. Realm: Leave as optional
  8. Role: Leave as optional
  9. Tap on Connect
  10. Enter your Passport York credentials then tap Sign In

Note: The VPN connection will stay connected for 10 hours or until you sign out.

Step 2 – Map the Network Share

  1. Tap on the Files app
  2. Tap on Locations
  3. Tap on
  4. Tap on Connect to Server
  5. Enter yorku.yorku.ca/LW-foldername
  6. Tap on Registered User
  7. Enter your Passport York credentials and tap on Next
  8. Tap on the folder and access the required files

Option 2 – MyApps

MyApps gives virtual access to file storage.

  1. Sign in to https://myapps.yorku.ca using your Passport York credentials
  2. The first time, you will be prompted to install the AppsAnywhere plugin
  3. Launch File Explorer from the list of applications
  4. Navigate to the network file share you want and copy the file(s) you need to your local computer
  5. Once you have finished working with the files, copy the updated version back to the network share
